Twisted Kismet

The sometimes crazy road from here to there

A balancing act

goals

Anyone who knows me knows I am very goal oriented.  I always seem to have a “to do” list…or two or three…along with a bucket list or two.  Lately, most of the goals or items on the to do list have been centered around financial issues and projects around the house.  It’s been an expensive year requiring a juggling act of sorts to get things accomplished.

It’s exhausting.

It occurred to me this weekend that the goals and to do lists have almost taken over my life.  I rarely do things “for fun” anymore.  What happened?

I know there are happy go lucky people out there who go through life taking advantage of fun stuff seemingly without a care in the world.  There are times that I envy that attitude.  My brain seems to focus on the things that should be done. That NEED to get done.  It’s almost endless.

I think it’s time to find some balance.  Time to focus on things that nurture the soul as well as the wallet. After the roof work is completed in a couple of weeks, it might be time to take a break from the never ending cycle of getting stuff done.

It’s time to relax for a bit.

I worked on a couple of creative type projects over the past few months.  It’s entirely relaxing to be focused on a project and not on problem solving.  It might be time to finally get the piano tuned so I can dabble in music to quiet the mind.

It’s time to enjoy what has already been done or just WHAT IS.  It’s time to remember that things are pretty darn good the way they are.

I’m with you right now… life has gotten to be about the next thing that NEEDS done… not the next thing we could do for ourselves. Work on your balance… tune up the piano… keep the singing voice primed… and enjoy what keeps you sane (and young)!

Yes, exactly! We are so busy moving from one task to the next that we forget to just BE. The singing group cancelled the Women’s Chorale for fall. As disappointed as I was about that, I figure it will save me $100 AND give me time to focus on other things until after the first of next year. A silver lining of sorts
